Midtown Diner

What can I say about Midtown Diner?
Well for Paninis and Appetizers they are great at that...... But what if you happen to want a BLT? A BLT is a Bacon Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich with Light Mayo on the inside of the buns.
I was in the mood for a BLT for a few days and decided to get it today. I ordered from Midtown Diner because they have always been so good with their food. Unfortunately I was disappointed.
The BLT Deluxe came with 3 Onion Rings a handful of Fries and a mini salad on the side which consisted of a sliced carrot a bed of lettuce and 2 slices of a tomato. The Fries were soggy tasted like they threw them in with the onion rings and no flavor to them. The so called salad, well I took one look at it and decided that it was not for me.
The actual BLT on the other hand...... well lets just say I am sure that my 5 year old brother can make a better BLT than Midtown Diner. The bread was toasted to the point of being almost burnt. Very light mayo which was good, wilted lettuce and most definitely not a freshly cut tomato. The bacon was greasy and not thoroughly cooked. I looked and felt my arteries clogging up without even touching the sandwich.
Onto the tasting..... Mush is the correct word for this sandwich. It wasn't what a BLT should taste like and I am disappointed in the fact that Midtown Diner could pass this off as one.
The coffee that I got came half full in the cup with no foam.

So if you go to Midtown Diner order the Paninis or the Smoked Quesadilla with Salsa.

Sagaponack

Sagaponack

Sagaponack is a place I happened to walk into on a sunny hot Tuesday afternoon. I had gotten the chicken and cheese quesadilla. Oh my god! It was fantastic. Just the right amount of portion and it comes with freshly made chips. It satisfied my stomach completely! Lunch was so good that I decided to go for dessert.

So seeing the Islamorada Key Lime Pie on the menu, I decided to give it a try and compare it to my home of Florida's Key Lime Pie. No one can make it better than Floridians. But I figured I'd try it out. Oh lord I think I died and gone to heaven!

I highly recommend Sagaponack for lunch. Short review but still the best lunch I have ever had

Oh boy! Where to start.... I just recently discovered foodler.com and have been ordering from here when I am at work. I felt like ordering Fettucini Alfredo lately so I ordered from La Crosta.

Now never mind that the delivery boy was so lazy, didn't want to lift a finger to ring the buzzer. Lets talk about the food. The bread that comes with the pasta had more flavor than the pasta.

Now I am a huge Fettucini Alfredo fan and when I tasted this dish from La Crosta, it was disgusting! No flavor what so ever! The pasta was well cooked. But the dish lacked seasoning. no salt whatsoever, or pepper. The sauce had no taste I felt like I was eating paste with pasta.
Upon calling the restaurant to ask them if they do season their pasta the managertold me they usually do season the food, and that next time I order from them my order is free...Next time? There will definitely not be a next time.
So I post beware of the Fettucini Alfredo if you dare to venture to La Crosta. The best thing you can get from them is the Snapple and the Toasted Garlic Bread.

Everything is done family style

With a menu of Earth, Land, Sea, Heaven and Hell Colors is truly a great find for dinner.

For a starter drink, I had ordered the Chocolate silk. It had a light cocoa smell, a good amount of vodka, roasted coffee, dark chocolate shavings. $10. The vodka taste of the drink will clearly knock your socks off! It delivered a powerful punch, that indulges your taste buds with a strong coffee flavor along with a strong vodka taste. This drink holds true to its name of being the Chocolate silk.

Next was the Calamari Fritto, which is parmesean, pickled tomato, lemon aioli. $10. Very freshly made. Kicks your mouth buds. The sauce tastes like a hollandaise sauce. Crispy all the way through, not soggy. Most definitely the best Calamari I have ever had.

The Korean Bulgogi BBQ is a thinly sliced rib eye, pickled radish sald and cucumber. $12. Radish is earthy but clean. Cucumber is fresh and crisp. The meat is a bit smushy for my taste, a bit bland tasting and could have used more flavor then the cola marinade. Overall juicy.

The Atmosphere was great and very relaxing. Good music and a very friendly waiter. Hostess greeted us at the door with a smile. The waiter explained the menu. Explained what we were eating. Baked apple sidecar was not present, they ran out. Which is a shame cause I really wanted to drink that.

The Beetini is a beet infused vodka, lime and orange liquer. $11. Has a good taste. Refreshing. Beets don't overpower the taste. Looks like cranberry juice. Overall very, very good.

The last meal was a Mexican cheese tamale. Panela cheese, wild mushrooms $11. Juicy, has a spicy kick to it. Cilantro is fresh. Not enough cheese in the tamake though. Overall pretty good. Mushrooms are juicy and delicious.

Long service towards the end we waited a good 20 minutes before the waiter came back to take our dessert order.

Cheesecake-$7. Tastes lemony, fluffy, not too sweet.

Triffle-$7. Is refreshing cake taste, chilled to perfection. Pudding was great!

Eating at Colors was a good experience, and I will most definitely come back again but with a much larger group.

Overall total both Chrysoula and I, $87.09

Oosaka Sushi

Oosaka Sushi Bar (Corner 28 Restaurant & Caterers)
40-28 Main Street
Flushing, NY 11355

Minimum 10.00

Its hard to find a decent Sushi place here in Flushing Queens. But I was curious of this restaurant Corner 28. I pass by it all the time and never go in. Today I did! There are three sections of the restaurant. Upstairs is if you want to dine in, downstairs holds the Chinese Buffet and the Sushi section.

I ordered from the Sushi Section named Oosaka Sushi. Two orders of the California Deluxe which is Crab meat, avocado, cucumber, and fish eggs plus an order of Crunchy Crab meat which is Crab meat, avocado, and home fried tempura flake. The total separately is usually 3.75 for one roll cut into eight pieces. But since it was lunch time, I was reminded of the Lunch special by the waitress.

The Lunch special is any three rolls for 8.25 plus you get Miso Soup and Spring Water. Well they forgot to put my Spring water in the bag, and the Miso Soup was good but they only filled the Styrofoam cup half way. Other than that, the California Deluxe Roll was just as I expected! It definitely had a fresh taste to it. The Crunchy Crab meat Roll however... it was fresh obviously but the Home Fried Tempura Flake made the roll taste like it had peanuts in it. I don't know if Tempura Flakes are supposed to taste like peanuts but it did.

Overall, I give this place 4 stars since service was quick, the waitress helped me save a few cents and the food was rather delicious with the exception of the water and Miso Soup. But I will definitely go back to try the Chinese Buffet section!

Cafeteria

In Chelsea, you'll find a great restaurant called Cafeteria. It's high energy and lively atmosphere upstairs with is chic and relaxing atmosphere downstairs in lounge, both have the impression of a good time. Tonight, was the 5th time I've gone to Cafeteria and it never fails me. Usually I'd order the Pear Mimosa or a White Grape Martini for drinks, and for dinner the Meatloaf. But this time I order from the appetizers.

The apps are so huge you can really barely finish them unless you have been starving all day! I had the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Dan had Tomato Basil Soup, Sarah had the Mac Attack and for dessert, we each had a gigantic slice of the Red Velvet Cake.

Dan's Tomato Basil Soup had a very velvety flavor, with burst of Tomato and clearly was a winner for him. It also comes with two chunks of grilled cheese croutons in the middle, basil and sour cream. This came to a total of 8.00.

Sarah's Mac Attack consists of three small bowls of Mac an Cheese. The first one is regular, Cheddar and Fontina cheeses. This brings you back to when your mom made it from scratch and not from the box! The middle is a Truffle Oil, I personally didn't like this one because it was just to oily for my taste. The third and the absolute best is the Bacon and Gouda! This one is my favorite. It has everything you want all in one! With a smokey taste and a creamy texture this one is most definitely a winner. Its 13.00 for the tasting of all 3, but if you want them individually they are 8.00 with the exception of adding 1.00 in the Bacon and Gouda and 3.00 for the Truffle Oil.

My Warm Spinach and Artichoke Dip is a great flavor for the mouth. It comes with a tower of Garlic Croutons that look like flat bread, that are kinda salty but thats were the dip comes in. Spreading the dip on the croutons, makes the salty flavor melt into the dip. Its creamy, delicious, and will take your taste buds away to the next level. It costs 10.00 and remember you can share this appetizer with a friend for sure. I can never finish it!

Since we were there for Sarah's birthday, we decided to taste their Red Velvet Cake, with Cream Cheese Frosting. Now the cake was good, not the best I have ever had but good. The frosting was so sweet I thought that I would develop diabetes right then and there. Most definitely you can split this cake with another person, maybe even three people because it is way to overly served for just one. The cake is 8.00.

Overall our experience at Cafeteria was a great time with the exceptions of the bus boy, not our waiter who brought out the cake and when we told them it was Sarah's birthday they didn't even bother to sing. He just brought out the cake and left. Blew my mind because anytime I have gone there, they have always sung to the birthday person.

it's a great late night find and is always open! 24 hours a day!

Every Tuesday at Down The Hatch, it's Ladies night. Where beers are 1.00 per cup, and 8.00 per pitcher. You don't have to be a lady to get this deal though. My ladies and I had cozied up to a table and some stools ordering a round of Bud Light, BBQ Wings, Mild Wings, Jalepeno Poppers and a basket of their Famous Wafer Fries.

The Wafer Fries were 3.79, came they were hot and crunchy! I mean the picture tells you about them itself. Of course the flavor was great, lightly salted and oh so good with ketchup. The wings both come to 7.99 each, for 6 wings in a basket. They were extremely hot coming out. The BBQ very saucy but still amazing, the dip that came with it however didn't taste as good as I remembered. so i ate sans the dip.

Sarah got the Mild Wings, which usually I would have ordered that but my last experience with them left a salty after taste in my mouth. She says they were good, and not too saucy. Just the right amount actually. Also, we can't leave out the Jalapeno Poppers which were 6.99 for 6. Different from the usual Nacho Cheese that would come inside if it. The Cheese was actually Cream Cheese!!!! Surprisingly it was really good. The flavor made me want to order more, but with the goal of trying not to spend so much money... I had to resist.

Beers were served cold, and the flavor was magnificent. Upon having a group of guys wanting to join us, we stayed longer than we hoped and had a blast. The DJ was so sweet and even played some sort of "Hey It's Your Birthday" song for Sarah. Our waitress was pretty attentive, but had charged us a pitcher of beer extra that we bought at the bar.

All in all I give the food and atmposphere experience 5 stars! Down The Hatch is so far my favorite place to go with friends, when I want to relax and not worry about tomorrow. It fits into every budget, and you'll always make new friends there!
